Rocky Mountain leads after Round 1 of Frontier/Cal Pac Women's Golf NAIA Qualifier

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Rocky Mountain College jumped out to an early lead after Round 1 of the Frontier Conference/California Pacific Conference Women's Golf NAIA Qualifier Monday at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz. The Battlin’ Bears emerged as the frontrunner with a team score of 26-over-par 314 a third of the way through the three-day, 54-hole tournament. Grace Metcalf led the charge for Rocky Mountain with a 2-over 74, followed closely by teammate Isabella Downing, who carded a 76. Tyla Potgieter and Kadence Fischer both rounded out the performance with scores of 82, while Alivia Webinger contributed an 84. Montana Tech followed with a 329 to sit second place, led by Kodie Hoagland’s 81. Carroll College (342), Soka University of America (355), Providence Christian (361), and California Maritime (468) round out the team standings. Metcalf holds a one-shot lead over Simpson’s Michelle Euan in the individual standings. Rocky’s Downing sits third on the leaderboard at 76, and Tech’s Hoagland and Carroll’s Stella Calridge wrapped up Round 1 in a tie for fourth at 81. In order to receive an automatic berth to the NAIA national championship, the Frontier and Cal Pac conferences cooperated to meet the minimum number of six participating teams.
