WBK: Rocky Mountain stages comeback to clinch victory in Frontier Conference Tournament Semifinal

March 3, 2025 GREAT FALLS, Mont. - In a thrilling display of resilience and strategy, the Rocky Mountain women's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Montana State University-Northern 61-51 in the Frontier Conference Tournament semifinal. Rocky Mountain, the No. 1 seed with a record of 20-9, faced off against the No. 5 seed MSU-Northern, which finished their season with an overall record of 13-17. Early in the game, the visiting team took charge, leading at halftime with a score of 27-23. However, the momentum shifted as Rocky Mountain mounted a formidable comeback in the later quarters. The clash unfolded at the Pacific Steel & Recycling Arena, Montana ExpoPark in Great Falls, Mont., drawing enthusiastic supporters from both sides. Sydney Dethman, a senior from Rocky Mountain, turned in a standout performance, scoring 25 points accompanied by seven rebounds and a block. Her efforts were crucial in overturning the initial deficit. Paige Wasson also made significant contributions, adding nine points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks, reinforcing Rocky's defensive stance. The team's collective effort was further supported by Becky Melcher's two steals and six points, and McKenzie Long's overall play which added depth to the bench contributions. Montana State-Northern's top performers included Canzas HisBadHorse and Taya Trottier, each scoring 16 points. Despite a strong start, the Skylights struggled to keep pace with Rocky Mountain's increasing intensity, particularly during the key moments when Rocky closed the gap and eventually dominated the game.
