Boys Varsity Golf Falls Four Strokes Short Against Mentor, 161-165
MENTOR, Ohio - Gilmour suffered its first dual-match loss of the season Monday, Sept. 14, as Mentor posted a 161 to edge the Lancers by four strokes. Gilmour finished with a team score of 165 and moved to 3-1 in dual-match play.
Marty Klang led the Lancers with a season-best round of 40. His score was Gilmour’s lowest of the match and kept the Lancers within striking distance in a contest decided by one stroke per counting round.
Brody Race followed with a 41, finishing one stroke behind Klang. Enzo Marous and Luke Woodhouse each shot 42 to complete Gilmour’s four counting scores. The Lancers’ scoring quartet was separated by only two strokes, providing a balanced team total.
The four rounds added up to 165, but Mentor’s 161 was enough to secure the narrow victory.
Although the result ended the Lancers’ 3-0 start, Klang’s best round of the season and the team’s tightly grouped scores gave Gilmour several positives from the match. The Lancers will carry a 3-1 dual-match record into their next competition tomorrow, Sept. 15 versus Orange at The Country Club.
