Gilmour Academy Lancers Secure a Goalless Draw Against University School in Soccer Showdown

Joe Ciuni Sr | Gilmour Academy | Oct 11, 2024

In a highly competitive soccer clash held at Gilmour on October 10, 2024, the Gilmour Academy Lancers played to a 0-0 tie against the University School Preppers. The tightly contested match showcased the skill and tenacity of both high school teams, leaving neither able to break the deadlock.

The first half of the fixture saw the Preppers assert control over the game, dominating ball possession. However, the period ended with no goals on the board. The Lancers' goalie, Brady Benisek, stood out with a commendable performance, achieving his 10th shutout of the season. This significant milestone ties him with the school record set by Dan Hammer in 1977.

Gilmour Academy's defense was formidable, with JJ Cistone, AJ Panzica, Casey Nakhoda, and Greg Savron keeping the Preppers at bay. Their collective effort limited the opposition to just four attempts on goal, all expertly managed by Benisek. The momentum shifted in the second half as Gilmour Academy dominated, creating two excellent scoring opportunities in the final minutes of play that almost clinched the game.

"I am very proud of our effort today. After US dominated the first half possession, we turned the tables and dominated the second half, with 2 excellent chances to win the game in the final 2 minutes," said the Lancers' coach, reflecting on the team's performance. "This game gives our team momentum going into the playoffs next week."

With a current record of 11-2-4, the Lancers are building substantial momentum as they head into the playoffs, bolstered by top-notch defensive performances and strategic prowess.
