EARLY EASTER

By Bill Schneider Gates Mills, OH -- Gilmour wasted little time jumping on Berea-Midpark. The Lancers pounded out 12 hits for the second straight game to beat the Meteors 14-2 in five innings at Figgie Field at Sharnsky Stadium. The highly potent 1-2-3 combination of Brady Olsen, Sean Pitrone and Zac Titas went right to work in the bottom of the first. Olsen singled, Pitrone doubled and Titas doubled right behind him and it was 2-0 before an out was made. A CJ Santagata walk and Jack Quinn sac fly made it 4-1 after one. After a scoreless second by both teams, the Lancers went back to work in the third. Santagata walked and Quinn singled for his first big league hit. Santagata and Quinn stole second and third respectfully and when Berea catcher Nate Samarin's throw went wild, Santagata came home to score. Two pitches later Brady Benisek singled in the third base hole to score Quinn. Benisek stole second and scored when Olsen got his second hit of the day. Olsen came around to score on Titas' hard grounder to third that went for an error and it was 8-1 after 3. In the fourth, after Quinn reached on an error and Benisek walked, Olsen tripled to right center to clear the bases. Pitrone followed with a sac fly to score Olsen. Titas and Salerno singled and Tyler Hall walked to bring up Tyler Pozsgai. Pozsgai drove a double to deep left center, clearing the bases and making it 14-2. On the mound, Santagata was solid for his third consecutive start. CJ went four innings, scattering two runs on six hits and striking out six to improve his record to 3-0 on the year. Sean Pitrone pitched a scoreless fifth to finish the game off. GA heads into the All Star break at 9-0. They pick up action again Tuesday with four straight days of action vs Willoughby South, a home and home vs Lake Catholic and Chagrin Falls.
