CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio - Emmy Sell rallied for a three-set victory after being called up from the JV team, securing Gilmour’s lone point in a 4-1 Girls Varsity B tennis loss to CVCA on Wednesday.
Playing at No. 3 singles, Sell recovered after dropping the opening set 6-3. She evened the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set, then completed the comeback by winning the third-set tiebreaker 10-7. Her performance gave the Lancers a victory in one of the match’s three singles contests.
Hannah Fouad also pushed her singles match beyond the opening two sets’ regulation games at the No. 2 position. After a 6-3 loss in the first set, Hannah Fouad responded with a competitive second set before falling 7-6 in a tiebreaker. At No. 1 singles, Julia Aziz lost 6-2, 6-0.
CVCA claimed both doubles points. The No. 1 pairing of Lizzy Savron and Ellie Deering improved from a 6-1 opening-set loss and challenged more closely in the second set before falling 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Olivia Garcia and Miki Iskra were defeated 6-1, 6-2.
Although CVCA took four of the five courts, Emmy Sell’s move into the Varsity B lineup produced a determined comeback and a third-set tiebreaker win for the Lancers.
