Fitzpatrick Wins Varsity B Debut as Lancers Fall 4-1 to Hawken

CHESTERLAND, Ohio - Kathryn Fitzpatrick earned a straight-set victory in her Varsity B debut and recorded Gilmour's lone point in a 4-1 loss to Hawken on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The Lancers competed through several extended sets in the road match, including two tiebreakers in doubles.
Fitzpatrick delivered the Lancers’ winning performance at No. 4 singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-4. She maintained the advantage through two competitive sets and closed each one by the same margin. The result gave Fitzpatrick a victory in her first appearance with the Varsity B team and kept Gilmour on the scoreboard.
Ellie Deering and Lizzy Savron produced Gilmour’s closest match outside Fitzpatrick’s victory. The doubles pair pushed both sets to tiebreakers before falling 7-6, 7-6. Although Hawken secured the team point, Deering and Savron stayed within reach throughout each set and forced their opponents to win the decisive points under pressure.
Hawken collected the remaining singles points in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Hannah Fouad battled through a 6-2, 6-2 defeat. Liv Slocum fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, while Olivia Garcia competed at No. 3 and was defeated 6-2, 6-3. Garcia improved from two games won in the opening set to three in the second, but Hawken completed the straight-set result.
The final score reflected Hawken’s success across three singles positions and the doubles court, but Gilmour left the match with Fitzpatrick’s debut victory and a pair of tiebreaker sets from Deering and Savron. Those performances provided the Lancers with concrete positives from a competitive road test, particularly in the closely contested doubles match.
