SOLON, Ohio - Gilmour Academy earned decisive victories in the top two singles matches but fell 3-2 to Solon in its first Northeast Ohio Tennis Association (NEOTA) match of the season Tuesday at Solon Community Park. The Lancers moved to 2-1 on the young season after the closely decided team match.
Abigail Lynch delivered Gilmour’s most dominant performance at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Lynch controlled both sets from start to finish and improved to 3-0 in match play this season.
The Lancers also collected a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, where Maeryn Ryznar posted matching 6-1 scores. The win gave Gilmour its second team point. The season’s early highlights also include Scarlett Greer improving to 3-0 in match play at No. 2 singles.
Solon responded in the remaining three flights. At No. 3 singles, Savannah Drew lost 6-1, 6-1. Sara Thompson and Scarlett Greer dropped the No. 1 doubles match, with the result recorded as 1-6, 0-1. In the No. 2 doubles flight, Odessa Snyder Hilal and Odessa Snyder also lost by a recorded score of 1-6, 0-1. Those two doubles results gave Solon the points it needed to secure the 3-2 team victory.
Although the Lancers came up one point short in their NEOTA opener, the straight-set performances at the top of the singles lineup provided a strong foundation. Gilmour left Solon with a winning record and two unbeaten match-play marks among its early-season highlights.
