Gilmour Academy Freshman Basketball Secures Victory Over Cardinal Mooney

Matt Benisek | Gilmour Academy | Jan 26, 2025

In a closely contested regular season basketball showdown on January 25, 2025, the Gilmour Academy Lancers edged out Cardinal Mooney with a final score of 40-35. The Lancers, after a narrow lead at halftime with a score of 17-16, maintained their momentum to clinch the victory. Noah Hillman emerged as a top scorer with 8 points, closely followed by Milan Makovits with 7, and both Liam McCrone and Vinny Konopka contributing 6 points each. Key moments included a big three-pointer by Vinny Konopka right after halftime, setting the tone for the rest of the encounter. Noah Hillman also added layup late in the 4th on a pass from Liam McCrone to seal the game. Coach Benisek praised the team's performance, noting, "Great team win today! We got positive contributions from everyone at different points in the game. We did a great job pressuring the ball and being in passing lanes. As a result, we forced them to take tough shots and were able to run in transition for easy baskets. We've had a tough stretch of opponents, it feels good to get back in the win column." These remarks underscore the collective effort that led to their win. As Gilmour Academy looks ahead, they face Avon next at Avon High School on January 28, 2025. The 6-8 Lancers hope to carry the momentum of their recent victory into this upcoming challenge.
