The Gilmour Academy Lancers boys varsity cross country team showcased a significant improvement in their performance at the Hoka Kickoff Classic XC Showcase held on August 23, 2025, at Painesville Riverside High School. The Lancers, featuring a mix of veteran athletes and promising new runners, secured an impressive 13th place out of 51 competing schools.

Last season, the team had finished 23rd in the same event, but this year, the dedication to training was evident as all team members either set or approached personal bests. Evan Lindley, a junior, was the standout performer, securing ninth place overall among 346 competitors. His effort was bolstered by an enduring push throughout the race and a strong finish. Freshmen Ben Grossner and Evan Sammut also made notable high school debuts, finishing second and third for the Lancers respectively. Teammates Ryan Moore, Nathan Lindley, Wyatt Tomasek, and Carter Shininger all contributed to the team's success with solid performances and personal records.

The Lancers will next compete in the Mentor Cardinal Classic on August 30, 2025, at Garfield Park. The event should provide another opportunity for the young team to demonstrate their progress and cohesion as a unit. Additionally, the junior varsity team also performed admirably at the Hoka Classic, placing 21st out of 58 teams. Kevin Shank, another freshman, led the JV squad with an 18th place finish among 522 runners, suggesting a bright future for the Lancers in upcoming seasons.
