Gilmour Academy Lancers Fall to Amherst Comets in a Challenging Freshman Basketball Encounter
In a nail-biting regular season basketball clash on January 30, 2025, the Gilmour Academy Lancers faced a tough loss against the Amherst Comets with a final score of 43-50. The game, held at Marion L. Steele High School, saw the Lancers, led by freshman talent, fighting ardently but ultimately falling short against the Comets.
The Lancers struggled to find their groove as Amherst shifted defenses, leaving Gilmour with a challenging half-court game. By halftime, the Lancers were trailing with a score of 17-20. Despite their efforts, the Comets maintained the lead, culminating in their victory. Coach Benisek highlighted the strategic challenges posed by Amherst, stating, "Amherst did a good job of switching up defenses, it kept us from getting into a rhythm in the half court. We just didn't make enough plays down the stretch to get the job done."
The Lancers saw a mixed performance from their team. Lorenzo Salvatore led with 10 points, followed by Vinny Konopka with 9 points, and Noah Hillman with 6 points. Support also came from Joe Goff, Milan Makovitz, Liam McCrone, and Brayden Phillip, contributing crucial points to keep the game competitive.
Looking ahead, Gilmour Academy is set to play against Lutheran West at Lutheran West High School on February 1, 2025. This upcoming game will be a critical opportunity for the Lancers to bounce back and improve their season record, currently standing at 6 wins and 10 losses. The team remains focused on developing their skills and strategies to secure a win in their next encounter.
