Kevin Byrne | Gilmour Academy | Jan 7, 2025

The Gilmour Academy Lancers overcame a halftime deficit to defeat the Cleveland Central Catholic Lady Ironmen 69-60 Monday night. The road win saw the Lancers improve to 5-6 on the season. The game was close the whole way with the Lancers trailing 28-25 by halftime. However, a key forth quarter run saw the Lancers pull away in the final minutes to secure the win. Leading the way for the Lancers was Morgan Pfundstein with a career high 20 points, followed by Senior Tia Shaw with 14. Senior Elaina Kline-Ruminski added 13 points to go along with a team high 4 assists. Sophomore Erin Rossoll also had a good game, chipping in 11 points to the team's victory. The Lancers got contributions up and down the lineup with Sophomore guard Brook Leedy coming off the bench and sinking two crucial three-pointers late in the first half, which helped shift the momentum. Sophomore guard Celia Duffy led the way on the boards, grabbing 5 rebounds, one an offensive rebound, was accompanied by a big put back that helped the Lancers stretch the lead. Reflecting on the fierce competition, Gilmour Academy's Coach, Kevin Byrne, praised the resilience of his squad: "It was a tough environment tonight, but the girls really persevered and played a great 4th quarter." Their performance under pressure was a testament to their growth as a team this season. Looking ahead, the Lancers are set to host Archbishop Hoban on Wednesday, January 8, at Lancer Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7pm
