Gilmour Academy Lancers Secure Victory in Tense Lacrosse Clash with Archbishop Hoban

In a thrilling encounter on the lacrosse field, the Gilmour Academy Lancers girls' varsity team clinched a hard-fought victory against the Archbishop Hoban Knights, triumphing 14-8 in a regular season game on April 4, 2025, at Archbishop Hoban High School. The game was marked by intermittent sprinkles and a chilly weather, setting a dramatic stage for the Lancers' second game of the season. Leading the charge for Gilmour was Riley Boylan, who not only scored a career-high 5 goals but also set a personal record with 6 points in a single game. Reagan Anderson scored the decisive game-winning goal among her total of two goals, solidifying the Lancers' lead. Contributions came from multiple players including Quinn Doyle and Scarlett Greer, each adding to the scoreboard and assisting, demonstrating a strong team effort. The game saw a significant shift at halftime after starting goalie Maddie Donnelly had to leave due to a prior commitment. Freshman Sammy Shurman bravely took over in the second half, facing tough challenges but managing to help secure the win for her team. Despite some defensive lapses that allowed the Knights to close the gap, the Lancers maintained their lead till the end. Coach expressed optimism about the team's progress, noting the challenge of regrouping after a break and facing an experienced opponent. "It's still early, we have a lot to work on just coming out of a 2 weeklong spring break. It is hard to get all the pieces together for only our second game against a team who has already played 6 previous games. It's a win and we will keep pushing forward," the coach stated. JV also recorded a Victory against Hoban, 8-5. Looking ahead, the Lancers are set to host Riverside High School on April 7, 2025, at their home ground. With a current record of 1-1, the team is eager to build on their recent victory and continue their competitive season.
