Gilmour Varsity Volleyball Goes 3-0 to Win Second Annual Lancer Invitational

Rachel Horvath | Gilmour Academy | Sep 12, 2026

GATES MILLS, Ohio - Gilmour Academy completed a 3-0 run through the second annual Lancer Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12, winning the championship with a 2-1 victory over Lake Catholic. The Lancers recovered from an opening-set loss in the final to win 24-26, 25-23, 27-25 and close an unbeaten day on their home court.

The Lancers began the tournament with another three-set test against Holy Name. After dropping the first set 25-16, Gilmour responded in a tightly contested second set and pulled out a 25-23 win. The deciding set followed a similar course, with the Lancers again delivering the key points late for another 25-23 victory and a 2-1 match win.

Gilmour carried that momentum into its second match and produced its most decisive performance of the invitational. The Lancers swept Jackson 2-0, taking the first set 25-18 before completing the victory with a 25-17 result in the second. It was the only match of the day in which Gilmour did not need a deciding set, securing the team's place in the championship match.

Lake Catholic edged Gilmour 26-24 in an extended opening set of the final, putting the Lancers in a familiar position. Gilmour answered with a 25-23 victory in the second set, forcing one final race for the title. Neither side could separate at the end of the third, but the Lancers earned the final two-point margin and captured the championship with a 27-25 victory.

Aiden Pike earned All-Tournament Team recognition and was named the invitational's most valuable player after helping Gilmour navigate two three-set matches. Kyla Williams also received All-Tournament Team honors, giving the champion Lancers two individual selections following a day in which they won six of eight sets.

Across the opening match and championship final, Gilmour went 4-0 in sets decided by two points. That late-set execution defined the tournament run, from the back-to-back 25-23 wins over Holy Name to the 27-25 championship-clinching set against Lake Catholic.

It was a great day of volleyball in Lancer Gymnasium! Thank you to Brunswick, Holy Name, Huron, Jackson, and Lake Catholic for attending. Congratulations, Lancers, on your tournament title!

The Lancers return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 15 in a road tripleheader at Magnificat.
