Gilmour Boys JV Golf posted four counting scores in the 40s and defeated Western Reserve Academy by one stroke, 177-178, on Wednesday at Western Reserve Academy. Alex Pikovskiy led the Lancers with a team-low 42 in the tightly contested Aug. 26 match.
Braden Minotas followed with a 43, giving Gilmour a combined 85 from its top two finishers. Those low rounds established the foundation for the Lancers' winning total and left little margin for error as the remaining scores were added.
Paul Fox and Keegan Wintersteller each recorded a 46 to complete the scoring. Their matching rounds brought the Lancers to 177, one shot below Western Reserve Academy's 178. With all four Gilmour scores separated by only four strokes, the Lancers received the consistent production needed to secure the victory.
The one-stroke finish made each counting score consequential. A single additional stroke anywhere on Gilmour Academy's card would have produced a tie, while the two rounds of 46 provided the final contributions necessary to keep the Lancers ahead.
By the end, Alex Pikovskiy's 42, Braden Minotas's 43 and the pair of 46s from Paul Fox and Keegan Wintersteller had combined to deliver Gilmour Academy's 177-178 victory.
