JV Lancers Fall to Bay 4-1, Highlighted by First-Career Win for Olderman and McNutt

Gilmour's JV Girls Tennis team fell 4-1 to Bay on Thursday at home, but the Lancers came away with a milestone performance from their No. 2 doubles team. Maddy Olderman and Malaya McNutt won their first career match in their first career appearance, defeating their opponents 7-5, 6-4.
The No. 2 pairing delivered the Lancers' lone point by prevailing in two competitive sets. Maddy Olderman and Malaya McNutt handled the pressure of a tight opening set before completing the straight-set victory. The result gave Gilmour its only point of the match and provided a positive start for the first-time competitors.
Gilmour also pushed Bay into a decisive finish at No. 3 singles. Hayden Lawrence opened with a 6-2 victory before Bay responded with a 6-4 win in the second set. The match went to a deciding tiebreak, where Hayden Lawrence narrowly fell 10-8. It was the Lancers' closest singles match and one of the day's most competitive contests.
At No. 1 singles, Kathryn Fitzpatrick lost 6-3, 6-2, while Gianna Kliegl dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 2. The Lancers' No. 1 doubles team of Liv Wearsch and Hannah Christensen improved in the second set but fell 6-1, 6-4 as Bay secured its fourth team point.
Although Bay earned the overall victory, Gilmour's No. 2 doubles breakthrough and Hayden Lawrence's three-set effort gave the Lancers two performances on which to build.
