JV Lancers Fall to Mentor on Fifth-Score Tiebreaker After 167-167 Tie

Gilmour Academy’s JV Boys Golf team matched Mentor with a four-player total of 167 but fell on a fifth-score tiebreaker Thursday at Manakiki Golf Course. The final team line showed Gilmour at 167 and Mentor at 167, leaving the extra score to decide the closely contested match.

Carter Slife led the Lancers with a team-low 39, providing the strongest individual round of the match for Gilmour. Paul Fox and Alex Pikovskiy each followed with a 42, giving the Lancers three counting scores of 42 or better and keeping them level with Mentor.

Liam McCrone completed the four-player team total with a 44. The Lancers’ counting rounds added up precisely to 167, as the 39 from Slife, the pair of 42s and the 44 produced the same total as Mentor. With neither team holding an advantage through the primary scoring format, the match moved to the fifth-card comparison.

Although the final result went to Mentor, Gilmour’s balanced scoring allowed the Lancers to finish even at 167 before the fifth-score tiebreaker determined the winner.

The JV Lancers will be back on the course on Wednesday, August 26 versus Western Reserve Academy at Boulder Creek.
