Lancers Beat NDCL 4-1 for Third Straight Win

GATES MILLS, Ohio - Gilmour Academy earned victories on four of five courts Thursday, Sept. 17, defeating NDCL 4-1 for the Lancers’ third straight win. The Lancers combined two singles victories with a sweep of the doubles matches to secure the home victory.

Grier Peckham delivered the match’s most dramatic performance at No. 1 singles. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Peckham fought off two match points and took the second set 7-5. Peckham carried that momentum into the deciding match tiebreak, winning 10-6 to complete the comeback and claim a key point for Gilmour.

Maeryn Ryznar added a commanding victory at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Ryznar did not concede a game in either set, giving the Lancers another singles point. NDCL recorded its lone point at No. 3 singles, where Naya Hilal fell 6-0, 6-0.

Gilmour controlled the doubles portion of the match. Abigail Lynch and Lynn Talty rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, surrendering only one game across two sets. At No. 2 doubles, Savannah Drew and Sara Thompson prevailed in the closest doubles contest of the day. Drew and Thompson won a first-set tiebreak for a 7-6 advantage, then closed the match with a 6-4 victory in the second set.

The doubles sweep, Ryznar’s straight-set shutout and Peckham’s three-set comeback accounted for Gilmour’s four points. The balanced effort allowed the Lancers to overcome NDCL’s win at No. 3 singles and extend their winning streak to three matches.
