Lancers Earn First 5-0 Sweep of Season Against Maumee Valley

Gilmour’s Varsity A Girls Tennis team earned its first 5-0 sweep of the season Wednesday, defeating Maumee Valley at home. The Lancers won all five matches in straight sets, combining resilience and discipline with steady execution in 90-degree heat.

The sweep provided a strong response after Gilmour’s tough 3-2 loss to Hathaway Brown on Tuesday. With little recovery time and the temperature approaching the day’s 91-degree high, the Lancers delivered a complete team performance across all three singles courts and both doubles positions.

Abigail Lynch set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. After working through the most competitive opening set among the three singles matches, Abigail Lynch pulled away in the second. Grier Peckham controlled the No. 2 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-1, while Maeryn Ryznar added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.

Gilmour’s doubles teams were equally effective. Savannah Drew and Scarlett Greer rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, dropping only two games and closing the match with a shutout second set. Their result gave the Lancers another decisive point and helped secure the sweep.

The closest match came at No. 2 doubles, where Sara Thompson and Lynn Talty faced pressure in both sets. The pair remained composed through two tight finishes, winning each set 7-5. Their ability to execute late completed a day in which Gilmour Academy captured all 10 sets played.

The 5-0 result marked a quick turnaround for the Lancers and reflected the depth of the lineup. From dominant singles performances to Drew and Scarlett Greer’s fast start and the repeated late-set poise of Sara Thompson and Lynn Talty, every position contributed a point against Maumee Valley.

The Lancers return to action on Tuesday, September 8 at Hawken with a 4:30 p.m. start.
