Lancers Fall 4-1 to Harvey After Tight First Half

GATES MILLS, Ohio - Gilmour Academy stayed within a goal through halftime before Harvey added an insurance goal in the second half to defeat the Lancers 4-1 on Thursday night. The second-half goal proved decisive after Harvey took a 2-1 advantage into the break.

Nick Friesen provided Gilmour’s goal in the first half, converting the Lancers’ top attacking moment of the match. Dominic Schaffer earned the assist on the play, helping Gilmour remain within striking distance during the opening 40 minutes. The Friesen-Schaffer connection accounted for the Lancers’ scoring as they worked to answer Harvey’s two first-half goals.

The 2-1 halftime margin gave Gilmour an opportunity to pull even after the break, but Harvey kept the Lancers off the scoreboard in the second half. Harvey then scored twice more to extend its lead to three goals and close out the victory.

Although the Lancers were unable to complete the comeback, their first-half response kept the match close through intermission. Friesen’s finish gave Gilmour its attacking highlight, while Schaffer made a direct contribution by setting up the goal. Harvey’s ability to protect its lead and add two second half goals created the final separation.

Boys JV Soccer lost 3-0 to the Harvey Red Raiders.

The Lancers move just under .500 to a 4-5 record at the halfway point of the regular season. Gilmour Boys Soccer is back in action on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Chagrin Falls.
