Lancers Fall to West Geauga 1-0 on Senior Day
GATES MILLS, Ohio - Gilmour Academy lost 1-0 to West Geauga on Saturday, October 3, in Gates Mills, with a corner-kick goal deciding the Senior Day matchup. The Lancers generated their highest single-game shot total of the season but could not turn those chances into an equalizer.
The decisive play came when the Lancers relaxed defensively on a West Geauga corner kick, leaving an opposing player open for a shot. The finish found the upper-right corner, giving goalkeeper Kevin Moore no chance to stop the strike. That lone breakdown provided the difference in an otherwise one-goal contest.
Moore finished with six saves, helping limit West Geauga to its single goal. At the other end, West Geauga’s goalkeeper recorded nine saves to preserve the shutout. The opposing goalkeeper’s performance denied the Lancers a breakthrough despite their increased shooting output, making finishing the central obstacle for Gilmour’s attack.
Before kickoff, seniors David Kleyner, Noah Hayat and Brett Kelly were honored as part of the Senior Day recognition. The pregame ceremony put the seniors at the center of the occasion before the Lancers took the field against West Geauga.
Gilmour finished without a goal despite producing more shots than in any of its previous games this season. The Lancers will look to bounce back in their next contest on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Beachwood.
