Lancers Finish Second at District Tournament, Earn Return Trip to State
RAVENNA, Ohio - Gilmour Boyd Golf earned a second consecutive trip to the state tournament with a runner-up finish at the OHSAA Division II District Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Ravenna. The Lancers placed second among 12 teams with a 316, their second-lowest team score of the season, as Enzo Marous led three golfers in the 70s with a 76.
Marous finished sixth individually, setting the pace for a closely grouped trio at the top of the Lancers’ lineup. Lorenzo Salvatore followed with a 77, and Iulius Braho shot 78. Just two strokes separated those three rounds, giving the Lancers a combined 231 from their top three finishers and a strong foundation for their qualifying total.
Brody Race added an 85 to complete the four counting scores that produced the team’s 316. Marty Klang finished with an 87. Race’s round gave the Lancers their final contribution to the team total, while the three scores in the 70s highlighted the depth of the effort.
The district performance paired one of the Lancers’ best team totals of the season with a state berth. Only one team finished ahead of them in the 12-team field, and the runner-up result extended their run of state qualification to two straight years. Marous’ sixth-place individual finish added another distinction to a day led by the team’s balanced scoring.
The postseason continues at Firestone Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 10, where the Lancers will compete for a state championship.
