Lancers Place Second at Sectionals, Qualify for District Tournament

NORTH LAWRENCE, Ohio - Gilmour’s Boys Varsity Golf team earned a place in the OHSAA Division II District Tournament with a second-place finish at Tuesday’s sectionals. The Lancers posted a team score of 317, finishing second in a 14-team field and advancing through the postseason.
Brody Race led the way with a 77, placing fourth individually among 70 golfers. Race’s round was the lowest score on the Lancers’ card and put him near the top of a deep sectional field.
Enzo Marous added a 79, giving Gilmour two golfers in the 70s. The performances by Race and Marous provided the foundation for the Lancers’ qualifying total and kept the team in contention near the front of the standings.
The rest of Gilmour’s lineup delivered the consistency needed to secure second place. Iulius Braho shot an 80, while Lorenzo Salvatore completed the four counting scores with an 81. Those rounds combined with Race’s 77 and Marous’ 79 to produce the Lancers’ 317.
Marty Klang finished with an 82, leaving all five Gilmour golfers within five strokes of one another. Although Klang’s score did not count toward the four-player team total, the tightly grouped rounds reflected the lineup’s balance across the sectional competition.
The runner-up finish moved the Lancers one step deeper into the OHSAA postseason. With two sub-80 rounds, a fourth-place individual performance from Race and no score higher than 82 across the lineup, Gilmour advanced to the district tournament with contributions throughout its five-player group.
Next week's district tournament is hosted by Windmill Lakes Golf Course in Ravenna on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
