AKRON, Ohio - Gilmour Boys Golf sits seventh with a team score of 331 after the opening round of the OHSAA Division II State Championships on Sunday, Oct. 11, in Akron, Ohio. Brody Race led the Lancers with a 78 to stand 17th overall individually heading into the second and final day of the tournament.
Enzo Marous followed with an 81, three strokes behind Race, while Lorenzo Salvatore shot an 83. Those rounds gave the Lancers three players separated by just five strokes at the top of their lineup. Race was the team's only golfer to break 80 on the opening day, with Enzo Marous finishing closest to that mark among the remaining Lancers.
Marty Klang completed the team's four counting scores with an 89. The Lancers' total came from Race's 78, the rounds of 81 and 83 and Klang's contribution. Iulius Braho finished with a 95, six strokes behind Klang, and that round did not count toward the 331. The five individual scores ranged from 78 to 95.
Seventh place is the Lancers' position through one round, with the tournament standings still to be settled. The Lancers return Monday morning, Oct. 12, for the final round.
