CINCINNATI, Ohio - Gilmour Girls Varsity A Tennis swept all three singles matches in straight sets Sunday, Aug. 16, earning a 3-2 victory over Indian Hill during the Lancers’ weekend trip to Cincinnati. The win moved Gilmour to 2-0 early in the season.
Abigail Lynch led the singles sweep from the No. 1 position, dropping only two games in a 6-2, 6-0 victory. After taking control in the opening set, Lynch completed the performance with a shutout in the second set to secure one of the Lancers’ three team points.
The success continued at No. 2 singles, where Maeryn Ryznar recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win. Ryznar created separation in the first set and then closed the match emphatically without conceding a game in the second.
At No. 3 singles, Savannah Drew completed Gilmour’s sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Drew produced the Lancers’ most decisive opening set of the day and maintained the advantage through a more competitive second set. Across the three singles courts, Gilmour won all six sets and surrendered only nine games.
Indian Hill earned both of its points in doubles play. Sarah Thompson and Naya Hilal fell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Scarlett Greer and Lynn Talty lost 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. The second doubles match included the closest set of the doubles competition, with Scarlett Greer and Lynn Talty pushing Indian Hill before falling by two games in the opener.
Gilmour’s three straight-set wins provided the full margin needed for the team’s second victory of the young season.
Girls Varsity A Tennis will be back in action on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 4:30 p.m. versus Solon at Solon Community Park for the team's first NEOTA match of the season.
