Lancers Sweep Singles to Defeat Hawken 3-2 for Second Straight Win

Gilmour Girls Varsity A Tennis swept the three singles courts to earn a 3-2 road victory over Hawken on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The Lancers won every singles set in the rivalry match, overcoming two doubles defeats to secure their second straight victory.

Abigail Lynch led the singles sweep with a commanding performance at No. 1. Lynch won the opening set 6-0 and surrendered only one game in the second, completing a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The result gave the Lancers an important point at the top of the lineup and set the standard for the other singles courts.

At No. 2 singles, Grier Peckham was similarly effective. After taking the first set 6-1, Grier Peckham closed the match with a 6-0 second set. Maeryn Ryznar completed the singles sweep from the No. 3 position, winning 6-1, 6-3. Together, the three singles players dropped only six games across six sets while accounting for all three of Gilmour's team points.

Hawken claimed both doubles matches to keep the team result close. Savannah Drew and Sara Thompson fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 pairing of Scarlett Greer and Odessa Snyder battled through matching sets but lost 6-3, 6-3. Those results gave Hawken two points, leaving the Lancers' unbeaten singles lineup to determine the 3-2 final.

The victory continued Gilmour Academy's positive run and added another road result in the Lancers' rivalry with Hawken. With three decisive straight-set singles wins, the Lancers produced the points they needed to leave Hawken with their second consecutive team victory.
