Lancers Sweep Singles to Edge Magnificat 3-2 for Second Straight Win

GATES MILLS, Ohio - Gilmour Varsity A Tennis swept all three singles matches to defeat Magnificat 3-2 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, earning its second straight victory. The Lancers received straight-set wins from Abigail Lynch, Grier Peckham and Maeryn Ryznar in the home match.

Lynch secured Gilmour’s point at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. After controlling the opening set, Lynch remained steady through a tighter second set to complete the win and lead the Lancers’ sweep at the three singles positions.

Peckham delivered a commanding performance at No. 2 singles, dropping only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Ryznar matched that score at No. 3 singles, also winning 6-0, 6-1. Their efficient performances gave Gilmour three team points and ultimately provided the difference in the match.

Magnificat claimed both doubles contests to keep the team result close. Sara Thompson and Savannah Drew fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, Scarlett Greer and Lynn Talty took the loss with the result recorded as 3-1, 1-6.

With the team score determined across five courts, Gilmour’s consistency in singles proved decisive. Lynch handled the closest of the three singles matches, while Peckham and Ryznar combined to concede only two games over four sets.

The 3-2 result gave the Lancers consecutive victories and highlighted the strength of the singles lineup. Gilmour finished the afternoon with a complete singles sweep, overcoming Magnificat’s two doubles points to secure the home win.

The Lancers remain home against NDCL on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
