Late Turnover Sends Lancers to 14-7 Road Loss at Lake Catholic

MENTOR, Ohio - Gilmour Football’s late comeback was undone by a turnover Saturday morning as Lake Catholic converted a fumble into the deciding touchdown in a 14-7 victory. Tyler Pozgai’s 2-yard touchdown run tied the game with 1:20 remaining in the third quarter, but Lake Catholic answered with the go-ahead score and stopped the Lancers on their final plays.
Lake Catholic scored on its opening drive before Gilmour’s defense settled in and kept the game within reach. Michael Shaw led that effort with eight tackles and a forced fumble, Bruno Cook made seven tackles, and Ryan Detzel added five tackles and a fumble recovery. The Lancer defense held Lake Catholic scoreless through the middle two quarters.
Gilmour produced all 202 of its offensive yards on the ground. Nathan Lennon led the rushing attack with 105 yards on 15 carries, averaging 7 yards per attempt. Dominic Dunlevy added 73 yards on 16 carries, helping the Lancers sustain drives in a low-scoring road game.
The rushing attack finally reached the end zone when Pozgai powered in from 2 yards out.
Lake Catholic recovered a fumble and turned the Lancers’ second turnover into the winning touchdown. Gilmour could not convert on its final possessions to tie the score, closing a tight road battle that moved the Lancers to 2-2 on the season.
The Lancers are back in action next Friday night, Sept. 18 in Week 5 hosting John Hay on Homecoming in Weber Stadium.
