Lennon's 98-Yard Pick-Six Powers Gilmour Academy Past John Hay 40-0

GATES MILLS, Ohio - Nathan Lennon returned an interception 98 yards for a touchdown just before halftime, punctuating a dominant opening half as Gilmour Academy defeated John Hay 40-0 in its Homecoming game Friday night. The Lancers led 34-0 at halftime and finished with six touchdowns and four interceptions in the shutout victory.

Lennon accounted for three touchdowns during the first half, providing the driving force behind Gilmour's early separation. The running back carried 11 times for 133 yards and scored twice on the ground before adding the long pick-six. His interception return sent the Lancers into halftime with a five-touchdown advantage and eliminated any chance for John Hay to build momentum before the break.

Gilmour's rushing attack received contributions throughout the lineup. Ryan Detzel scored on his only carry, a 19-yard run, while Dominic Dunlevy gained 79 yards on eight attempts. Quarterbacks Tyler Pozsgai and Joey Terranova also reached the end zone, with Pozsgai scoring on a 5-yard carry and Terranova adding a touchdown on a 2-yard run. The balanced production helped the Lancers finish their scoring with one second-half touchdown.

The defense preserved the shutout while repeatedly taking the ball away. In addition to Lennon's interception return, Michael Shaw, Jayme Salter and Brayden Phillip each intercepted a pass. The four takeaways gave Gilmour's offense favorable opportunities and kept John Hay from producing a scoring response at any point.

Played under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 70 degrees, the Homecoming win combined explosive offense with a complete defensive effort. Lennon supplied the defining play with his 98-yard return, while Gilmour's collection of rushing scorers and defensive playmakers turned a 34-point halftime lead into a 40-point shutout.

The Lancers improved to a 3-2 record on the season and travel to University School next Saturday, Sept. 26 at 12:00 p.m. in Week 6.
