Lynch/Peckham Win Doubles District Championship; Ryznar Finishes Third in Singles

AKRON, Ohio - Gilmour Academy’s Abigail Lynch/Grier Peckham won the doubles title at the OHSAA Division II District Championships on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Akron, Ohio. Maeryn Ryznar finished third in singles competition.

Grier Peckham/Abigail Lynch advanced through the doubles semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Orange’s Raina Patel/Melanie Statsevych. The Gilmour pair won both sets without needing a tiebreaker, securing a place in the championship match against Hathaway Brown.

In the final, Grier Peckham/Abigail Lynch defeated Hathaway Brown’s Anna Mills/Ava Kamensky 6-4, 6-2 to claim the district championship. After taking the closer opening set, the Lancers won the second by a four-game margin. The champions completed their semifinal and final matches without dropping a set.

Singles play included a strong response from Maeryn Ryznar following a 2-6, 0-6 semifinal loss to Orange’s Genevieve Hayden. In the third-place match, Maeryn Ryznar defeated Ursuline’s Maria Meranto 6-0, 6-0. The straight-set victory came without conceding a game, a decisive finish after the semifinal setback.

Peckham/Lynch won the District Doubles Championship and will enter the state tournament as a No. 1 seed. In singles, Maeryn Ryznar finished third in the district and will compete at state as a No. 3 seed.

The district competition determined championship finishes and seeding ahead of the final stage of the postseason. The Lancers compete next at the state championships Thursday, Oct. 15, and Friday, Oct. 16, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.
