CHESTERLAND, Ohio - Gilmour Girls Tennis claimed singles and doubles championships at the OHSAA Division II sectional finals Saturday, Oct. 3, in Chesterland. Maeryn Ryznar won the singles title with a 6-0, 6-2 victory, while Grier Peckham and Abigail Lynch secured the doubles championship with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Both Ryznar and Peckham/Lynch entered the sectional tournament as No. 1 seeds and went undefeated, dominating their opponents throughout their championship runs. The results gave the Lancers a title in each draw and advanced all three players to the OHSAA Division II district tournament scheduled for Oct. 9-10.
Ryznar capped the unbeaten singles run by sweeping the opening set of the final, 6-0. The second set ended 6-2, completing a straight-sets victory in which Ryznar conceded just two games. That decisive finish secured the sectional championship after three victories and backed up the top seed.
Peckham and Lynch delivered a similarly commanding performance in the doubles final. The pair took the first set 6-1 and followed with a 6-2 second set, allowing only three games in the championship match. Their unbeaten sectional record matched Ryznar's, with both Gilmour entries finishing their title matches without needing a third set.
The sectional champions now move to district competition, with singles and doubles represented among Gilmour's qualifiers following two successful top-seeded runs. The Lancers will look to continue their postseason success in their next contest at the OHSAA Division II district tournament on Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10.
