GATES MILLS, Ohio - Dominic Schaffer's second-half goal lifted Gilmour Boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Hoban on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Gilmour Academy. The result marked the Lancers’ first win over Hoban in school history. Gilmour paired the lone goal with a shutout to secure the milestone victory.
The teams went into halftime scoreless before Schaffer broke the tie after the interval. Yuryi Slivchuk supplied the assist on the deciding goal, giving the Lancers the breakthrough in a match with little room for error. Hoban did not find an equalizer, leaving that second-half combination as the difference at the final whistle.
Goalkeeper Kevin Moore finished with four saves and earned his fourth shutout of the season. His work in goal complemented Schaffer and Slivchuk’s contribution at the other end, ensuring Gilmour needed only one goal to win. The clean sheet also kept Hoban off the scoreboard through both halves of the match. The Lancers have a quick turnaround between the historic victory and their regular-season finale, with another match scheduled for Thursday night at home versus NDCL.
