AKRON, Ohio - Three Lancers secured state tournament berths on Friday, Oct. 9, at Springside Athletic Club, as Maeryn Ryznar advanced in singles and Abigail Lynch/Grier Peckham advanced in doubles at the OHSAA Division II District Tournament. Both entries won their first-round and quarterfinal matches in straight sets.
Maeryn Ryznar opened with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Strongsville to reach the quarterfinals. With a state berth at stake in the next round, Ryznar defeated St. John 6-0, 6-1.
The doubles pairing of Abigail Lynch and Grier Peckham began with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Canton Central Catholic. They followed that opening-round shutout with a 6-1, 6-0 quarterfinal victory against Hathaway Brown to secure their place at state. The pair conceded just one game across four sets of district play.
The postseason also continued without a defeat for Ryznar and the Lynch/Peckham doubles pairing. Each remained unbeaten in postseason play, delivering dominant performances in every match.
State qualification leaves district titles and state tournament seeding to be decided for the three qualifiers. The remaining rounds will determine their positions entering the state field. Maeryn Ryznar and the Abigail Lynch/Grier Peckham doubles team return to the courts Saturday, Oct. 10 at 8:30 a.m., for the district semifinals and finals.
