Varsity A Tennis Defeats Laurel 4-1 Behind Lynch’s Comeback Win

GATES MILLS, Ohio - Gilmour Academy earned a key OTCA victory Monday, Sept. 14, defeating Laurel 4-1 at home behind wins in four of the five varsity matches. The Lancers collected two singles victories and swept the doubles competition to secure the team result.

Abigail Lynch delivered the match’s highlighted comeback at No. 1 singles. Lynch battled through a tight opening set, prevailing 7-6 before taking command in the second. A 6-0 finish completed the straight-set victory and gave Gilmour an important point at the top of the lineup.

Maeryn Ryznar added a dominant performance at No. 2 singles. Ryznar did not concede a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory, providing the Lancers with another decisive point. At No. 3 singles, Savannah Drew opened with a 6-2 set win before Laurel’s player answered 6-3 in the second. Drew then fell 10-6 in the deciding match tiebreak, accounting for Laurel’s lone point.

Gilmour controlled both doubles matches in straight sets. Scarlett Greer and Odessa Snyder combined for a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, establishing an early advantage and carrying it through the second set.

Sara Thompson and Naya Hilal were equally effective at No. 2 doubles. The pair completed a 6-0, 6-0 win, giving Laurel no room to recover and securing Gilmour’s fourth match point.

The 4-1 result reflected a balanced performance throughout the lineup. Lynch’s comeback at first singles supplied the afternoon’s defining individual effort, while Ryznar’s shutout and the doubles sweep helped the Lancers close out an important home OTCA win.

The Lancers are back in action tomorrow, Sept. 15 at home versus Magnificat.
