Gilmour Varsity A Tennis opened its season with a strong all-around performance Thursday, defeating Bay Village 4-1 in the Lancers' home opener. Three straight-set singles victories and a win at No. 1 doubles carried Gilmour to a 1-0 start.
The Lancers set the pace with dominant play in the top two singles positions. Lynch and Ryznar highlighted the afternoon by winning their matches 6-0, 6-0, controlling both sets without conceding a game. The recorded lineup results listed Abigail Lynch at No. 1 singles and Maeryn Ryznar at No. 2 singles with identical 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Gilmour completed its singles sweep behind Savannah Drew at No. 3. After taking the opening set 6-2, Savannah Drew faced a closer test in the second but secured the match with a 6-4 win. That result gave the Lancers a third team point and ensured that all three singles matches ended in straight sets.
The No. 1 doubles team of Scarlett Greer and Sara Thompson added another point with a consistent 6-3, 6-3 victory. The pair maintained the same margin in each set, giving Gilmour its fourth win across the five contested positions.
Bay Village earned its lone point at No. 2 doubles. The Gilmour pairing of Odessa Snyder Hilal and Odessa Snyder fell 6-2, 6-2, but the Lancers' success throughout the rest of the lineup had already shaped the match.
With four straight-set wins, including two 6-0, 6-0 singles results, Gilmour combined depth with decisive play in its first competition of the season. The 4-1 home victory moved the Lancers to 1-0.
