Gilmour’s Girls Varsity B tennis team earned three straight-set victories and held off West Geauga for a 3-2 win Tuesday, Sept. 8, at home. The Lancers collected two points in singles and another in doubles to prevail in the closely contested match.

The Lancers built their winning total with commanding performances at second and third singles. Hannah Fouad controlled the No. 2 singles match from the opening set, winning 6-2, 6-0. Liv Slocum added another point at No. 3 singles with a consistent 6-2, 6-2 victory. Together, those results gave Gilmour two of the three singles points available.

Gilmour’s top doubles team supplied the third point. Ellie Deering and Lizzy Savron dropped only one game in their match, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. Their decisive result complemented the Lancers’ strength in the lower two singles positions and completed the three wins needed to secure the team decision.

West Geauga stayed in the match with victories at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles. Julia Aziz fell 2-6, 0-6 in the top singles match. The closest set of the day came at second doubles, where Mary Halscheidt and Mary pushed their opponents to a first-set tiebreak before falling 6-7, 2-6.

The narrow final margin reflected the importance of Gilmour’s straight-set wins. Hannah Fouad and Liv Slocum provided stability in singles, while Ellie Deering and Lizzy Savron delivered a strong performance at No. 1 doubles. Those three performances carried the Lancers past West Geauga in a 3-2 finish.
