MENTOR, Ohio - Gilmour's Girls Varsity B tennis team earned a straight-set victory at No. 2 doubles but fell 4-1 to Mentor on Wednesday afternoon. The Lancers’ lone point came from the No. 2 doubles pairing of Ellie Deering and Lizzy Savron, which won both sets by identical 6-4 scores.

The No. 2 doubles result, listed as a victory for Ellie Deering/Lizzy Savron, provided Gilmour with its strongest performance of the match. The Lancers secured the important points in two competitive sets, closing each one 6-4 to keep Mentor from completing a sweep.

Gilmour also showed improvement during the No. 1 doubles match. After Liv Slocum and Julia Aziz dropped the opening set 6-1, the pair responded with a tighter second set. Mentor prevailed 6-4 to finish the straight-set decision, but the Lancers’ second-set push reflected a stronger finish than their opening-set result.

In singles play, Emmy Sell produced Gilmour’s closest individual set. Playing at No. 3 singles, Emmy Sell extended the opener to a tiebreak before taking a 7-6 loss, then fell 6-3 in the second set. At No. 2 singles, Olivia Garcia also became more competitive as the match progressed, following a 6-2 opening-set loss with a 6-4 setback in the second.

Mentor added another point at No. 1 singles, where Hannah Fouad fell 6-2, 6-0. With wins in all three singles matches and at No. 1 doubles, Mentor secured the overall result despite Gilmour’s straight-set success in the final doubles position.
