Friday Night Lights Unity Seats to Unite Harris County Community on Sept. 11

Channelview High School and the Clear Creek Wildcats will meet under the Friday night lights Sept. 11, 2026, at 1100 Sheldon Road in Channelview. The Unity Seats experience begins at 6 p.m., followed by the football game at 7 p.m., bringing the excitement of high school football together with an evening of remembrance, connection and community pride.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is scheduled to represent the Harris County Sheriff’s Office during the event, joining community members through US United’s Unity Seats program. The initiative purchases tickets for law enforcement leaders and residents who hold opposing viewpoints, then seats them together to experience the game as neighbors rather than adversaries. With the crowd, competition and shared traditions of a Friday night game as the backdrop, participants can begin conversations and discover common ground across their differences.

This year’s gathering carries special significance because it falls on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The game will include a moment of silence and commemorative remarks honoring the nearly 3,000 people who were killed, while also recognizing the service and sacrifice of first responders. For the sheriff’s office, the evening reflects its commitment to honoring those who serve and strengthening relationships with Harris County residents.

Harris County is one of five national marquee sites participating in “Pass the Purple,” a campaign centered on the symbolic passing of a purple football. The gesture will connect the local event to a broader national message that differences do not have to prevent people from sitting together, listening to one another and sharing an experience rooted in respect.
