The Kenilworth Crybabies carried a 2-1 lead into a weather stoppage Thursday after thunderstorms forced their game against Old Kenilworth to end after two innings at Old Kenilworth.
The Crybabies wasted no time setting the tone. Mike DiFranco opened the game with a single, and Ryan Rosfelder followed with another hit to put immediate pressure on Old Kenilworth. Dillon Bandi then delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run, and the Crybabies added another run later in the inning when a hit from Joseph Maloney helped push the advantage to 2-0. Mike DiFranco also scored a run during the early surge as the lineup jumped out quickly.
On the mound, Peter Fitzpatrick kept Old Kenilworth in check through the shortened outing. Peter Fitzpatrick worked two innings and allowed just one hit and one earned run, giving the Crybabies a steady start before the weather took over the afternoon. The defensive effort behind him helped preserve the lead in a game that had barely settled in before the conditions changed.
Joseph Maloney and Dillon Bandi each finished with an RBI, while Fitzpatrick added a hit at the top of the order. The Crybabies' fast start was the clearest storyline of the brief contest, especially after Kenilworth DiFranco and the rest of the offense helped create early momentum.
With thunder and lightning moving into the area, officials postponed the game after two innings. The Crybabies will take that early 2-1 edge and look forward to resuming the matchup at a later date.
