GROVE CITY, Minn. - Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City scored 16 unanswered points in the second half to pull away from the KMS Fighting Saints for a 26-6 victory Friday night at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School Falcon Field. The Falcons turned a 10-6 halftime lead into a three-score margin after the teams battled through a scoreless first quarter in moderate drizzle and 59-degree weather.
The Saints’ defense produced the first major stand, stopping the Falcons near the goal line to keep the game scoreless. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City responded on the ensuing KMS possession by stopping Odin Shaw in the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 lead.
KMS answered with its biggest offensive play of the night. Kylen Payne connected with Storm Solis for a 56-yard touchdown pass, putting The Saints ahead 6-2. The Falcons reclaimed the lead with a rushing touchdown and successful 2-point conversion, taking a 10-6 advantage into halftime before controlling the scoring after the break.
The passing game provided KMS with its most consistent production. Payne threw for 240 yards and a touchdown, while Solis caught five passes for 166 yards and the score. Kason Helgeson added one reception for 78 yards. The Saints showed the ability to create explosive plays through the air, but the running game was unable to match that production against the Falcons’ defense.
KMS also received contributions throughout its defense. Cooper Peterson recorded 12 solo tackles, one assist and one tackle for loss. Solis added 10 tackles and one assist, Tucker Wilts finished with 10 tackles and an interception, and Levi Jones made two tackles for loss and recovered a fumble. Those takeaways and backfield plays highlighted the effort and physical play The Saints will look to build upon.
The Saints will return home to face Paynesville Area on Friday, Sep 25, 2026, at 7:00 PM CDT. KMS will look to pair its productive passing attack with a stronger ground game while carrying its defensive effort into the matchup.
