BKMS Schools Boys and Girls Varsity Track and Field Shine at Sections Meet
The BKMS track team put in a strong showing at the Boys and Girls Varsity Track and Field Section Meet in Luverne, Minnesota, on May 30. Despite initial concerns about the weather, which included the threat of thunderstorms, the meet pushed through with only a short rain shower before the 4x800m relay and persistent wind as the primary challenges. At the event, the Boys Varsity team secured 10th place, while the Girls Varsity team achieved a notable 5th place. The standout team performance was marked by significant state qualifications and individual achievements. The boys' 4x100 relay team, which includes Eshon, Quin, Jaden, and Hunter, set a school record for the fourth successive meet. Carly and DeAndre qualified in high jump, along with Hunter qualifying for state in shot put. Moreover, Amber achieved state qualification in the 400m, and Ava secured track tickets for both hurdle races. Other notable successes in Luverne include senior Lilly Ronholdt who set a personal best in the 300m hurdles in the final race of her senior year, and Mamie Luft who finished 3rd but held second place until the very last thrown of the night. Commenting on the meet, BKMS Track and Field coach Sam VanHeuveln expressed a mix of sentiments as the event concluded. "We are definitely going to miss this senior class, but I am extremely excited for the upcoming seasons with these younger kids that all have a fire to improve and do great things in the years to come," she said. The upcoming state track meet will be on June 6 and 7 at St. Michael-Albertville, and BKMS will look to carry over their strong momentum from the Sections meet.
