Fighting Saints' 7th Grade Season Finale Falls Short Against Ortonville Trojans

Jen DeBaere | KMS Schools | Oct 11, 2024

The KMS Fighting Saints faced a challenging finale to their 7th grade football season, ending on a solemn note with a 22-0 defeat by the Ortonville Trojans on October 10, 2024. The match, held in Murdock, marked the last regular season game for the spirited young team. Despite a tough start with a 16-0 halftime deficit, the Fighting Saints displayed tenacity and strategic defense. Notable performances included James Collins who executed a crucial sack and a valiant goal line stand that punctuated the game's end. The efforts of Collins and his teammates underscored a defensive resilience, though the team fell short in overturning the Trojans' substantial lead. In reflecting on the season, Coach DeBaere praised the young squad for their dedication against formidable odds. "Ortonville had one team made up of both 7th and 8th graders. That made it quite a challenge for our 7th graders. They played hard and had a great season. It was fun to coach them," said DeBaere. Ending the season with a 2-5 record, the Fighting Saints look forward to building on this year's experiences and returning stronger next season.
