KERKHOVEN, Minn. - KMS Schools' junior varsity volleyball team fell 2-1 to Lac qui Parle Valley in a conference match Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Fighting Saints dropped the opening set 25-21, responded with a 25-16 victory in the second and lost the deciding set 15-13.
The four-point loss in the opener put the Saints behind, but their serving helped change the match in the second set. Strong work at the service line powered their most successful stretch, producing a nine-point set victory and forcing a third set. The response gave the Saints a chance to take the match after the early setback.
Fighting Saints Girls stood out at the service line, a key area of strength for the Saints. Their middle hitters also made it difficult for Lac qui Parle Valley to produce strong attacks. Those contributions gave the Saints positives both from the service line and in their play against the opposing offense.
Sydney C. provided another contribution through versatility, playing wherever needed. That flexibility complemented the Saints' serving and middle-hitter play in a match that required them to recover from an opening-set loss.
The deciding set finished with the narrowest margin of the match, with Lac qui Parle Valley taking it by two points to secure the victory. The Fighting Saints will look to bounce back in their next contest Tuesday, Oct. 13, against Central.
