KERKHOVEN, Minn. - KMS Schools' Fighting Saints fell to Kimball Area 30-0 in their homecoming football game Thursday, Sept. 3, at Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg High School. The Cubs took control with a 22-point first quarter, building a lead the Saints could not overcome despite a stronger defensive showing over the final three quarters.
The Saints' defensive line settled in after the opening quarter, and Kimball added just 8 points the rest of the game. The secondary also limited big passing plays. Kimball running #9 finished with 88 rushing yards after earning CMC player of the week recognition a couple of weeks earlier with 226 yards on 34 carries against Paynesville.
Tucker Wilts led the Saints' defensive efforts with eight tackles, two assisted tackles and a sack. Storm Solis contributed five tackles and recovered a fumble, while Levi Jones recorded four tackles, including two tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery.
Making a first defensive start for the Saints, Gene Carlson delivered a tough performance with four tackles and one tackle for loss. Cooper Peterson added four tackles, and Wyatt Rudningen finished with three tackles and two assisted tackles, giving the Saints contributions from several defenders after the difficult opening quarter.
On offense, Cooper Peterson connected with Kason Helgeson for a 35-yard reception, providing a highlight for the Saints' passing game. The gain did not translate into points, and the Saints finished scoreless while their defense kept Kimball from matching its first-quarter production.
The Fighting Saints will look to bounce back in their next contest at Eden-Valley-Watkins on 10/9/2026
