KERKHOVEN, Minn. - KMS Schools fell to Lakeview 2-0 in junior varsity volleyball Tuesday, September 29, dropping a conference match by set scores of 25-20 and 27-25. The Fighting Saints put together a nine-point run in the opening set and pushed the second set beyond the usual 25-point finish, but Lakeview secured both sets.
Strong serving and hitting helped the Fighting Saints catch up in the first set. Their nine consecutive points provided a substantial rally, giving the team a productive stretch at the service line and on the attack. That combination was the central feature of the Saints’ first-set effort as they worked to close the gap.
Lakeview still finished the opener with a five-point advantage, winning 25-20 to take a 1-0 match lead. The Saints’ rally was not enough to claim the set, leaving them needing a second-set victory to extend the match.
The second set produced the closer finish. The Fighting Saints reached 25 points, but with a two-point margin required to win, play continued. Lakeview took the set 27-25, securing the match with a two-point edge after the Saints had narrowed the final margin from the opening set.
The nine-point opening-set run and extended second set highlighted the Saints’ efforts in the two-set loss. The Fighting Saints will look to bounce back in their next contest on Thursday, Oct. 1, against Canby.
