KERKHOVEN, Minn. - Litchfield defeated the KMS junior varsity volleyball team 2-1 on Tuesday night, winning the opening sets 25-21 and 25-22 before the Fighting Saints responded with a 15-12 victory in the final set.
The Fighting Saints stayed within striking distance throughout the opening set. KMS competed at the net and continued working through its attack, but Litchfield found enough points late to secure the four-point win and take a 1-0 advantage in the match.
KMS produced its strongest extended rally in the second set, scoring seven consecutive points. The run gave the Fighting Saints momentum and helped make the set the closest of the first two, but Litchfield withstood the push and closed out a 25-22 win to clinch the match.
The Fighting Saints continued to compete after dropping the first two sets. KMS played a tighter third set, maintained its pressure and finished the night with a 15-12 victory. The response provided a positive ending after two competitive losses and demonstrated the team’s ability to regroup.
Fighting Saints Girls delivered a strong performance in the front row, giving KMS an important presence at the net during its attacking and blocking efforts. Libero Addi D. anchored the back-row defense, helping the Fighting Saints handle Litchfield’s attacks and stay in rallies across all three sets.
KMS will next travel to face Yellow Medicine East on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7:15 p.m. CDT.
