The KMS junior varsity Fighting Saints used consistent serving and steady defense to sweep Yellow Medicine East 2-0 in a conference volleyball match Tuesday night. The Fighting Saints won 25-12, 25-16, controlling both sets from the service line and limiting opportunities for Yellow Medicine East to build momentum.
Brianna C. delivered the pivotal run in the opening set, serving for seven consecutive points to help KMS move in front. That extended turn at the service line gave the Fighting Saints room to settle into their offense, and they carried the advantage through the rest of a 25-12 victory. KMS continued applying pressure with its serve rather than allowing Yellow Medicine East to establish a consistent attack.
No. 5 Finstrom provided a strong attacking presence from the outside position. Finstrom’s play gave the Fighting Saints a dependable option at the net as they worked through their rotations and maintained control. KMS complemented that outside attack with disciplined serving, keeping Yellow Medicine East under pressure throughout the match.
The Fighting Saints remained composed in a more competitive second set. Yellow Medicine East increased its point total, but KMS continued to create separation behind its serving and back-row play before closing out the match with a 25-16 win. No. 15 Steinert had a productive night as a defensive specialist, contributing in serve receive and providing steady defense in the back row.
The straight-set result gave KMS a strong conference performance built on serving, outside hitting and defensive consistency. The Fighting Saints will return home to face Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6:00 p.m. CDT.
