KERKHOVEN, Minn. - KMS Schools’ junior varsity volleyball team defeated Canby 3-0 on Thursday, October 1, in a home conference match. The Fighting Saints won 25-22, 25-23, 16-14, using strong serving and well-placed hits to finish on the winning side of three closely contested sets.
The Fighting Saints opened with a 25-22 victory, securing the first set by the largest margin of the match. Serving and shot placement were central to their performance, giving the team two productive ways to attack as it worked toward an early advantage in the match.
The second set was tighter still. Canby finished just two points behind, but the Saints took the set 25-23 to build a 2-0 match lead. That result put the home team one set away from a sweep after two sets decided by a combined five points.
The third set followed the same competitive pattern, with the Saints prevailing 16-14 to complete the victory. None of the three sets was decided by more than three points. The shorter final set provided another close finish, and the Saints again secured the two-point margin needed to win.
Across the sweep, the Saints paired their serving with purposeful placement of attacks rather than relying on only one part of their offense. The Fighting Saints will look to bounce back in their next contest on Tuesday, October 6, against Lac qui Parle Valley.
