KMS/Benson Sweeps Girls C Squad Podium, Takes Fourth in Both Varsity Races

KERKHOVEN, Minn. - KMS/Benson won the girls C Squad title and finished fourth in both varsity races Thursday, Oct. 8, at the BOLD/BLHS Cross Country Invitational in Olivia. Porsha Gravley led a sweep of the first three places in the girls 2,500-meter C Squad race.

The KMS/Benson teams delivered fast performances across the divisions, matching the Olivia golf course's reputation for quick times. Porsha Gravley won in 9:31.2, followed by Libby Henry in 9:39.2 and Alaina Lorenz in 10:37.6. All three are eighth graders. Kenzlee Peters added a seventh-place finish in 11:14.6 and Meridith Huston took 16th in 12:20.2, completing the team's first five finishers. KMS/Benson scored 23 points to finish ahead of Murray County Central / Fulda's 48 and Redwood Valley's 55.

A closely grouped top three anchored the boys varsity team's fourth-place finish among six scoring teams with 88 points. Alex Zurn placed 10th over 5,000 meters in 17:27.7, while eighth grader Levi Pappadackis finished 12th in 17:40.5 and ninth grader Wyatt Hoff took 15th in 17:56.1. Those three finished within 28.4 seconds of one another. Cian Klucas placed 21st in 18:38.6 and Oswaldo Moreno finished 33rd in 19:53.7. Redwood Valley won the team standings with 29 points, while Gage Horstman of Sibley East won individually in 15:46.5.

Eighth grader Kayla Tollefsrud paced the girls' varsity team with a seventh-place finish in 20:39.8 over 5,000 meters. KMS/Benson scored 87 points to place fourth among five scoring teams. Cadence Holmquist and Ella Beyerl finished just 1.7 seconds apart, taking 20th in 23:53.4 and 21st in 23:55.1, respectively. Cora Doering followed in 23rd at 24:29.0 and Mamie Luft was 24th in 24:33.6, giving the team another close pair of finishers. Redwood Valley won with 25 points, and Wabasso's Elsie Leopold claimed the individual title in 19:44.4.

In the boys 2,500-meter C Squad race, Peyton O'Leary led KMS/Benson in fourth place at 9:37.3. Atticus Goff finished 15th in 10:32.2, while Shane Loen and Rogan Klucas crossed one second apart in 28th and 29th at 11:45.6 and 11:46.6. KMS/Benson placed third with 55 points, matching the total of second-place Murray County Central / Fulda. Redwood Valley won with 23 points, and Yellow Medicine East's Alexis Alejandro took the individual title in 9:09.4.

Mason McGeary, who ran strong after a week of nagging injury, led KMS/Benson's four boys junior varsity finishers with sixth place in 20:08.0 over 5,000 meters. Shane Froehlich placed 17th in 22:06.3, Jameson Klucas finished 33rd in 25:43.0 and Adam Davis was 36th in 26:11.9. Redwood Valley won the boys JV standings with 17 points, led by race winner Chase Wilson's 18:38.3.

Valentina Calderas led KMS/Benson in the girls 5,000-meter junior varsity race, placing eighth in 29:13.5. Miley Falcon finished 12th in 34:04.0. No girls JV team standings were listed, and Annie Lunde of Redwood Valley won the race in 22:53.5.
