KMS Fighting Saints 8th Grade Team Perfect End to the Season with a Shutout Win Over Ortonville Trojans
MURDOCK, MN - The KMS Fighting Saints' 8th-grade football team delivered an impressive performance in their final regular-season game, securing a 14-0 victory over the Ortonville Trojans on October 10, 2024. This win at their home ground sealed a successful season, concluding with a record of 5-2. The game started strong for the Fighting Saints as they led the first half with a narrow 6-0 margin. Key plays included a 10-yard touchdown pass from Rex Nelson to Hayden Duke, and the defense held the Trojans scoreless. In the second half, Tucker Wilts's 5-yard rushing touchdown extended KMS’s lead, and a subsequent 2-point conversion from Nelson to Eero Nelson capped the scoring. Defensively, the Saints were formidable. Kalan Van Heuveln's strategic play included a crucial sack, while Eero Nelson's relentless pressure led to two fumbles, which were adeptly recovered by Breken Navarro and Kendrick Wright. This defensive solidity ensured the Trojans were unable to break the shutout. Coach DeBaere praised his team’s effort, saying, "Awesome defensive effort. Offensively we controlled the game. This is a great group of boys to work with. They get along well and don't care who gets the glory. It was a wonderful season, and they were fun to coach."
